According to reports from a controversial psychiatric conference, some speakers advocated for lowering the age of consent to 11 years old, arguing that attraction to barely pubescent children falls within the spectrum of “normal” male sexuality.
The “Classifying Sex: Debating DSM-5” conference featured presentations that reportedly characterized pedophilia as “natural and normal for males.” Attendees discussed proposals to normalize hebephilia—defined as sexual preference for children in early puberty, typically ages 11 to 14. Proponents allegedly argued that because children are entering puberty earlier than in previous generations, the age of consent should be correspondingly lowered, and sexual activity with 11-to-14-year-olds should be socially accepted.
Conference materials reportedly went further, claiming that “at least a sizable minority of normal males would like to have sex with children, and normal males are aroused by children.”
The proposal to classify hebephilia as a psychiatric disorder in the updated Diagnostic and Statistical Manual was ultimately rejected. Critics interpret this decision as effectively welcoming pedophiles into the mainstream and accepting such attractions as “normal,” prompting celebration among pro-pedophilia advocacy groups.
Tom O’Carroll, a convicted child sex offender, advocate for legalizing adult-child sexual relations, and former leader of the Pedophile Information Exchange (PIE), reportedly praised the conference on his personal blog as “wonderful.”
Perhaps the most inflammatory presentation came from Philip Tromovitch, a professor at Doshisha University in Japan, who allegedly stated in his talk on the “prevalence of paedophilia” that the “majority of men are probably paedophiles and hebephiles” and that “paedophilic interest is normal and natural in human males.”
O’Carroll wrote on his blog that he joined Professor Tromovitch and a colleague for drinks following the conference, noting that “the conversation flowed most agreeably, along with the drinks and the beautiful River Cam.”
Ray Blanchard, professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto, has reportedly acknowledged that the APA’s decision amounts to declaring that sexual attraction to children is “normal.”
There is a connection to elite networks, such as the Epstein files—comprising over 3.5 million pages of evidence—which substantiates long-standing allegations that powerful figures have worked to normalize pedophilia and shield sexual predators from accountability.
These developments render the world increasingly dangerous for children.
